Tong transfer is a work you likely won't find in many traditional preschool setting, however it is a very popular work in Montessori classrooms! Children in both the Primary and Pre Primary classrooms enjoy choosing this work.
When children choose tong transfer work, they set up a table rug to prepare their work area and then choose the type of transfer work they would like from the shelf. They use small tongs to pick up objects one at a time and transfer them to a new container.
This work often has a seasonal theme or is based on student interests. In the picture below one of our students is transferring colorful apple beads into an ice cube tray. This work develops the pincer grasp, hand eye coordination, and concentration. It's an excellent pre writing work!
